Now Mr. Pom, with his new family at AIDS

Traci’s Paws is committed to providing homeless pets with a second chance in life, and our goal is to promote the humane treatment of animals and reduce the number of animals euthanized each year.

With a dedicated network of volunteers and supporters, we assist pet rescue organizations, animal centers, and shelters in the rescue and rehoming of pets in need. We also aid pet owners, concentrating on but not limited to the military and veteran community to help ensure their experience as pet owners is the best by keeping their pets in their homes for life through humane education, spay and neuter advocacy, and providing beneficial information on other programs our rescue partners may have.

Traci’s Paws relies solely on donations to continue our work, so please consider supporting us today!

Our Mission

Traci's Paws is a non-profit organization committed to saving the lives of homeless pets. We work with animal rescue organizations to increase their adoption success rates and support our community, with a focus on the military and veterans. We encourage fostering & pet adoption, and humane education to help keep pets in their homes, off the streets, and out of shelters, reducing the euthanasia rate.

Our Founder

Founder Traci Wilkerson Steckel with Spo

Traci Wilkerson Steckel, a native Texan and former educator, has had a love for animals from the day she was born. Of course, her parents and grandparents might say they had a little something to do with this, too!

Living out in the country of a small Texas town, her family experienced many discarded pets “dumped” onto their property.  Wilkerson grew up taking in these pets as her own as she did with many animals throughout her adulthood that were given to her by friends, her vet, and colleagues from a school where she taught First Grade.

The passion for saving these pets’ lives and the love instilled by her family gave her the initiative to do something on a higher level for pets across the country.

What began as a simple Facebook Page to share pets that were on borrowed time in shelters and rescues, Traci's Paws grew into something greater: an incorporated, first-of-its-kind 501c3 non-profit organization based in San Diego, CA.
